QUESTION: If a woman informs me that she breastfed my father—so that I may remove the hijab in front of her sons—but this person is elderly and sometimes calls upon other than Allah despite being reminded, due to confusion in her beliefs (for example, she says “يا رسول الله ” during trials), and I also know that this person is capable of lying, should I accept her statement about breastfeeding and remove the hijab in front of her children or not?
ANSWER:
It was explained in class that for a breastfeeding relationship to be valid and have legal effect, two conditions must be met:
1. The breastfeeding must occur when the child is under two years of age.
2. There must be five or more full feedings.
Additionally, we mentioned that any woman testifying in this matter must be truthful and trustworthy. A known liar does not meet this criterion.
In cases of doubt, the default assumption is that you must continue to observe ḥijāb in their presence.
