Ruling on Wearing High Heels Question: What is the ruling on wearing high heels, knowing that they produce no sound whatsoever and are worn only on special occasions? And what is the ruling if the shoes make a slight, unnoticeable sound? Sheikh ’Uthaymeen raαΈ₯imahullāh: Wearing high heels is undoubtedly a form of tabarruj (immodest display of a woman's beauty), as it elevates the woman physically(1). It is also harmful to the heel, as it raises it above its natural level(2). Therefore, it is blameworthy both from a medical and a religious perspective. Many doctors have advised against it due to its harmful health effects, in addition to its being religiously censured as a form of tabarruj(3). If the shoes make a sound, this makes it even more reprehensible(4). A woman should wear the type of footwear customarily worn by women. It is not permissible for her to wear shoes specific to men, as that constitutes imitation of men. The Prophet ο·Ί cursed women who imitate men in their appearance. ---------- (1) https://t.me/salafirecords/1723 (2) https://t.me/womensbenefits/941 (3) Although he stops short of declaring it impermissible, Sheikh Luhaidan rahimahullah highlights: "They are among the causes that accentuate a woman's buttocks, which are considered part of her physical allure. A woman is commanded to avoid anything that highlights or reveals her physical charms." https://t.me/womensbenefits/940 (4) https://t.me/womensbenefits/942
