It should be known that a woman performing ruqyah for her husband and caring for him when he is in need is from the Sunnah. It has been authentically reported in the Musnad of Ahmad (No. 24499) from ʿĀ’ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) who said:
كنت أرقي رسول الله ﷺ من العين فأضع يدي على صدره وأقول: ((امسح البأس رب الناس بيدك الشفاء لا كاشف له إلا أنت))
"I used to perform ruqyah on the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ against the evil eye. I would place my hand on his chest and say: ‘Wipe away the harm, O Lord of mankind. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing—a healing that leaves behind no ailment.’"
Likewise, it is appropriate for a husband to recite over his wife and family when any of them are suffering from illness. He should dedicate time to perform ruqyah for them or to recite over them in general. This too is from the Sunnah. In the Sahihayn (Bukhari and Muslim), ʿĀ’ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) narrated:
كان رسول الله ﷺ اذا اشتكى منا إنسان مسحه بيمينه ثم قال ((أذهب البأس ربّ الناس واشف أنت الشافي لا شفاء الا شفاؤك شفاء لا يغادر سقما))
"Whenever anyone of us fell ill, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would wipe over him with his right hand and say: ‘Remove the harm, O Lord of mankind, and heal. You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing—a healing that leaves behind no sickness.’"
It is highly recommended to make the recitation of Surah Al-Baqarah in the home a daily priority. This brings immense benefit that only those granted success by Allah can truly appreciate.
Imam Muslim (No. 804) recorded in a hadith from Abu Umāmah al-Bāhilī (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: ((اقرءوا سورة البقرة فإن أخذها بركة وتركها حسرة ولا تستطيعها البطلة))
"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the false magicians cannot withstand it.’"
Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allāh have mercy on him) said as comes in Al-Mawsū’ah Al-Albani fil ’Aqeedah (Vol. 3, p. 1011):
"Not long ago, a dispute occurred between me and my wife. She had been suffering from a persistent headache for days. Despite my shortcomings for many reasons, I placed my hand on her head and recited over her some of what has been authentically reported in the Sunnah. That night, I asked her: 'Are you still in pain?' She smiled and said: 'Alhamdulillah, ever since that night, the pain has not returned.' From this, the subject arose, and she said: 'Should I ask you whenever I feel unwell?' I replied: 'No, you do not need to ask.' Then we remembered the relevant hadith and she said: 'But you did it on your own initiative.' I said: 'Yes, exactly.' And here is the point of reflection: The Prophet ﷺ said:
((من استطاع منكم أن ينفع أخاه فليفعل)).
‘Whoever among you can benefit his brother, let him do so.’ This is what the Prophet said concerning ruqyah. And now here (in another hadith) he said: ‘Why did you not seek ruqyah for her?’—meaning, you should have asked ruqyah to be done on her behalf, not for yourself."
