Ruling on IVF (Sheikh Fawzān)

Question: The questioner asks: Honourable Shaykh, may Allāh grant you success—does intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) contradict belief in divine decree (Qadar), considering that Allāh has not decreed for us to have children for many years? Sheikh Fawzan hafidahullah: This procedure entails the exposure of private parts, and it is known as artificial insemination. It is not permissible due to the necessity of exposing the 'awrah, as well as concerns over the reliability of medical practitioners. Some may be financially motivated and might inject something other than the husband's sperm, which poses a serious risk to lineage. Avoid this method, and wait patiently until Allāh grants you offspring through other means.
