Does the husband have the right to prevent his working wife from going out to work in order for her to stay at home and look after the kids if he provides for her?
I am a teacher and I have married a teacher four years ago. We have had a child and during this period, we have lived in troubles because of her family, relatives and friends. I see no way out except preventing her from work; is it permissible for me to do so?
Sheikh Ibn Bāz raḥimahullāh responded:
It is permissible for you to prevent your wife from work and to tell her to stay at home to raise your children and take care of your matters. She has no right to work outside the home except with your permission and satisfaction if she takes care of the household because you are her guardian as mentioned in Sūrah Al-Nisā’ [34]:
{ٱلرِّجَالُ قَوَّ ٰمُونَ عَلَى ٱلنِّسَاۤءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بَعۡضَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ وَبِمَاۤ أَنفَقُوا۟ مِنۡ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ}
“Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially.“

Similarly, Shaykh Sālih Al-Fawzān حفظه الله said:
“The husband is entitled to prevent his wife from being hired or employed, as he is supposed to provide for her to meet all her needs. This is also because being hired or employed makes the wife too busy to fully observe her husband's rights or to look after her children. Work may also expose the wife to immoral situations, especially nowadays, when decency and modesty have become rare whereas the callers to evil and immorality have increased. And women nowadays mingle with men in offices and workplaces involving seclusion, so the danger is great and staying away from such places is obligatory without a shadow of a doubt.”
