I have never seen any good from you! Question: The questioner asks: If a wife says to her husband, "I have never seen any good from you," what should the husband do? Sheikh Muhammad Hisham At-Tahiri: The husband should be patient and understand that this is a trait commonly found in women, and it is very difficult for them to rid themselves of it. It is as the Prophet ﷺ said: "If she sees something [she dislikes], she says, 'I have never seen any good from you at all.'" You may treat her well for a lifetime, and if you make one mistake, woe to you. So you must be patient — you must be patient. This behaviour often stems from being distant from Allāh. The closer a woman is to Allāh Almighty, the more she will honour and preserve the bonds of companionship. What is truly astonishing, however, is when men themselves forget the bonds of companionship — this is a great calamity. How can you call yourself a man and forget this? By Allāh — may He honour you — even a dog, if you feed it for a day or two, and it sees you again after a hundred years, it will wag its tail in recognition. Why? Because it remembers the kindness. So you, as a man, why do you not uphold the same loyalty? It is truly strange. Allāh's aid is sought.
