For how many days can ’Eid be celebrated?
Sheikh Albāni raḥimahullāh states: “The Day of Al-Fiṭr (the 1st of Shawwāl) is ’Eid. As for the second and third day, they are not from the days of ’Eid at all. Thus ’Eid Al-Fiṭr is only one day whilst ’Eid Al-Aḍḥā is four days.” [Silsilah Al-Hudā wa An-Nūr 274]
This pertains to the designated days of ’Eid as per the Shari'ah.
In terms of celebrations continuing into the following days, Sheikh ’Uthaymeen (may Allāh have mercy on him) states:
"The days of ’Eid—there is no doubt that the first day is ’Eid, and there is no disagreement on this matter. The second and third days are also considered ’Eid, based on the statement of the Prophet ﷺ when he said regarding the two young girls who were singing: "Leave them, for these are days of ’Eid." The word "days" is in the plural form, and the minimum number for a plural in Arabic is three. Therefore, there is no issue with considering all three days as part of ’Eid.
However, there is one exception—fasting. If someone claims that fasting on the second and third days of Shawwāl is prohibited, just like on the first day of ’Eid, then this is incorrect, as these two days are not explicitly forbidden for fasting. However, in the case of ’Eid Al-Aḍḥā, it is well known that fasting during the days of Tashreeq (the three days following ’Eid) is not permissible. This means that, when adding these three days to the day of ’Eid Al-Aḍḥā itself, the total comes to four days during which fasting is prohibited.
Perhaps you are referring to the celebrations and joyous activities that people engage in during these days? If so, then yes, we affirm that ’Eid consists of three days for both ’Eid Al-Fitr and ’Eid Al-Aḍḥā."

I asked some of the Mashaayekh the following question:
"Some countries, such as Malaysia, celebrate ’Eid Al-Fitr for an entire month as a customary practice. Is this permissible?"
They all said: No, this is considered an innovation.
