10. A Woman Being Preoccupied Most of Her Time in the Kitchen and Elsewhere
It is narrated in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī from the hadith of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:
“The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up during the night and said: ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah! What trials have been sent down tonight? What treasures have been sent down? Who will wake up the women of the chambers? How many are clothed in this world yet will be naked on the Day of Judgment!’”
Explanation:
The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “Who will wake up the women of the chambers?” refers to his wives, encouraging them to wake up for prayer. He feared that the treasures of this world might open for them, becoming a distraction from Allah and the Hereafter. If this applies to them, then it applies even more so to others.
This hadith serves as evidence that one must avoid anything that distracts from Allah, whether in this blessed month or outside of it. Therefore, it is not befitting for a woman to waste her time preparing various types of food, drinks, and sweets—moving from one dish to another. Nor should she become absorbed in social media, engaging in unnecessary conversations, or be occupied with television series and other distractions. Likewise, excessive shopping or overindulging in family visits can be a hindrance.
From the reverence of Ramadan is utilizing it as a provision for the Hereafter, and the truly successful one is he whom Allah grants success.
