Ibn Qudamah (may Allāh have mercy on him) said: «الحرام المحض، وهو الزنا، فيثبت به التحريم، على الخلاف المذكور، ولا تثبت به المحرمية، ولا إباحة النظر؛ لأنه إذا لم يثبت بوطء الشبهة، فبالحرام المحض أولى، ولا يثبت به نسب» "Pure prohibition; referring to fornication, establishes prohibition (of marriage), according to the aforementioned disagreement. However, it does not establish mahram status (i.e., they remain unrelated and strangers to one another) nor does it permit looking (at each other). This is because if such effects are not established by intercourse involving doubt, they are even less likely to be established by pure prohibition. Furthermore, lineage is not established through it." [المغني (7/482)] Regarding breastfeeding, the Permanent Committee stated (21/133): «الرضاع المشكوك فيه لا تأثير له، وإنما ينتشر التحريم بالرضاع المعلوم إذا كان خمس رضعات أو أكثر، في الحولين، فإذا لم يكن معلوما فالأصل الجواز» "Doubtful breastfeeding has no effect; rather, the prohibition is established by certain and confirmed breastfeeding if it is five feedings or more within the first two years. If it is not certain, the default ruling is permissibility."
