Question: Is it established that when a young child sneezes, one should say Ψ¨Ψ§Ψ±Ω Ψ§ΩΩΩ ΩΩΩ (May AllΔh bless you) and pray for them?
Sheikh Yahya hafidahullah:
It is appropriate to supplicate for blessings and other righteous supplications for a child on a constant basis. This is part of taking care of them. It has been reported that the Prophet ο·Ί would have children brought to him, and he would perform tahneek for them and supplicate for them. Indeed, the Prophet ο·Ί is the best example to follow.
However, when it comes to sneezing, if a child sneezes, neither the father, the mother, nor the caregiver should say Ψ§ΩΨΩ
Ψ― ΩΩΩ (Alhamdulillah) on behalf of the child. Likewise, it is not said to the child ΩΨ±ΨΩ
Ω Ψ§ΩΩΩ (May AllΔh have mercy on you), because the child has not said Ψ§ΩΨΩ
Ψ― ΩΩΩ. Additionally, no other specific supplication is prescribed in this context during sneezing, as there is no established evidence to support this.
