Permissibility of Migration Without a Mahram
Question: A 20-year-old unmarried Muslim woman lives with her non-Muslim mother and grandmother in a shared home which also houses a dog. In her city there are few Muslims so she wishes to move to another city where there are more Muslims and stronger support. However, she does not have a male guardian (mahram) to accompany her.
Sheikh Abdulhameed Az-Zu'kari αΈ₯afidhahullΔh:
In cases of migration or extreme necessity, it is permissible for a woman to travel without a mahram; otherwise, the general rule is that a woman should not travel without one. But it must be noted that she may move to a house where there are non-mahram men (after migration), which could lead to issues with interactions, privacy, and potential harm.
