Advice Regarding Women Teaching Online Question: What is the ruling on a woman teaching via telephone through a live audio broadcast that female students listen to using headphones? What is your advice? Sheikh Yahya ḥafidhahullāh: This is incorrect. The voice spreads and is circulated here here and there, and this opens a door to evil. Allah, the Exalted, has said: {فَلَا تَخۡضَعۡنَ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ فَیَطۡمَعَ ٱلَّذِی فِی قَلۡبِهِۦ مَرَضࣱ وَقُلۡنَ قَوۡلࣰا مَّعۡرُوفࣰا} "Do not be overly effeminate in speech ˹with men˺ or those with sickness in their hearts may be tempted, but speak in a moderate tone." [Surah Al-Aḥzāb: 32] If a woman is asked a question or if she needs to respond, it should be as the male Companions would ask A'ishah from behind a veil; they asked her from behind a barrier. But in this case, where the audio is broadcasted, it is not appropriate. This opens a door to evil. A woman should not record her voice for dissemination. If she wishes to teach women, she can do so without recording, based on the previous evidence. As for this (dissemination of audio clips), then it is not permissible. She exposes herself to fitnah, and others are also exposed to fitnah by hearing her voice. @womensbenefits
