Isn't it better for women to pray directly behind men, as was practiced during the time of the Prophet ο·Ί?
Questioner: May AllΔh reward you with goodness. In the sixteenth question, they ask: Is it correct to say that the partition between men and women in the masjid is an innovation because it did not exist during the time of the Prophet ο·Ί?
Sheikh YaαΈ₯yΔ αΈ₯afidhahullΔh:
Yes, it did not exist during the time of the Prophet ο·Ί, but the claim that it is an innovation is not correct. βΔ'ishah (may AllΔh be pleased with her) said, "If the Prophet ο·Ί saw what women have introduced (today), he would have prevented them from attending the masjids." This was in the time of βΔ'ishah, so what do you think of the situation now?!
In fact, allowing women to pray behind the imΔm and the male congregants without a partition opens the door to temptation and the disease of the heart. In such a case, it is not permissible for women to attend the masjid. [The Prophet ο·Ί said] "Their homes are better for them."
However, if they attend a masjid where there is no free-mixing, then the risk of temptation is minimised, if not entirely removed. As for having no barrier in the back, this is a mistake.
