Are women allowed to visit the graveyard? Sheikh Muḥammad Al-Aflaḥi ḥafidhahullāh said: The stronger opinion is that it is permissible, based on: - General evidence, such as the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: ((كنت نهيتكم عن زيارة القبور فزوروها)) "I had previously forbidden you from visiting graves, but now visit them," and this applies to both men and women. - Specific evidence, such as the hadith in Sahih Muslim where the Prophet ﷺ visited the Baqee' cemetery, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) followed him. In the hadith, she asked him what to say to the inhabitants of the graves, and he replied, say: ((السلام عليكم دار قوم مؤمنين انتم السابقون ونحن اللاحقون)) "Say: Peace be upon you, O abode of believing people. You are the forerunners, and we are following you." He did not tell her that it was impermissible for her, and delaying clarification when needed is not allowed. Similarly, In Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ passed by a woman weeping at a grave and said to her, "Fear Allah and be patient." She replied, "Go away from me, for you have not been afflicted with a calamity like mine." He did not tell her that visiting graves was impermissible.
