Can a woman remove her clothes in a place other than her husband's house? Sheikh Manแนฃoor Al-Majeedi แธฅafidhahullฤh said: Regarding the hadith: ((ุฃูŠู… ู† ุณุชุฑ)) "Any woman who removes her clothes outside her husband's home has torn the veil between her and Allah," its meaning is: If she removes her clothes outside her husband's house with the intention of immorality, suspicion, and seducing men into temptation and sin. However, if she removes her clothes for a permissible reason, it does not fall under this hadith. The Prophet ๏ทบ told Fatimah bint Qais: ((ุงุนุชุฏูŠ ููŠ ุจูŠุช ุงุจู† ุฃู… ู…ูƒุชูˆู…ุ› ูุฅู†ูƒ ุชุถุนูŠู† ุซูŠุงุจูƒ ู„ุง ูŠุฑุงูƒ)) "Observe your 'Iddah (waiting period) in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for you can remove your garments there, and he will not see you." He permitted her to remove her clothes for a legitimate need with the proper regulations and etiquette. Thus, the meaning of "she has torn the veil between her and her Lord" and in another narration "between her and her husband" refers to if she betrays him by committing immorality or exposing herself to the gaze of non-mahram men or other suspicious activities. Our Sheikh Yahya, may Allah preserve him, said: "This woman is liable to this a threat wherever such behavior occurs. However, specifying a place other than her husband's house highlights that she should not leave to a place where there is no fear of temptation except with his permission. Since going out without his permission might lead to situations where his honour could be compromised through gazes or other means, the hadith specifies this severe warning; to emphasise caution against such temptation."
