"If one commits to a condition imposed upon him, then it is obligatory for him to fulfill it. This is based on the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: "The most deserving of conditions to be fulfilled are those by which you have made marital relations lawful." Yes, even though the marriage contract makes her his wife and it is permissible for him to consummate the marriage, common custom ('urf) dictates that mere agreement of the contract does not permit consummation until she is formally delivered to him. Unless their customs differs to this. Otherwise, the common custom requires a formal procession, gathering of women, and other related ceremonies before consummation. He must adhere to these customs. If he committed to these conditions, he must fulfill them. Breaking such promises or failing to keep one’s word is not the behavior of the righteous, who are known for fulfilling their promises. This is why the Prophet ﷺ praised Ibnul-'Āṣ ibn Ar-Rabee' for his reliability, even though he was a Mushrik at the time. He ﷺ said: "He told me and he was truthful to me, and he promised me and he fulfilled his promise." This is it, may Allah bless you.
