𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (1)

Ruling on wearing contact lenses Sheikh ’Abdul ’Azīz ibn Bāz raḥimahullāh was asked: Umm Khaled, A.A. from Ar-Riyadh says: ... I wear colored lenses at home to beautify myself for my husband, so what is the ruling on wearing lenses? Guide us in this light? A: If it strengthens the eyesight then there is nothing wrong with it, similar to glasses. But if it is [worn] for beautification then it is better and more appropriate to leave it off. If it is merely [worn] for beautification, it is better and more appropriate to leave it off? [Noor ’Ala Ad-Darb - Tape No. 189] Sheikh Fawzān ḥafidhahullāh was asked: What is the ruling on wearing colored lenses for the sake of beautification and keeping with the fashion trend, bearing in mind that their value is no less than 700 riyals? A: There is nothing wrong with contact lenses if there is a need, but if there is no need then it is better to leave them off, especially if they are expensive, as this would fall into prohibited extravagance in addition to the deception and beguilement it involves, because the eye appears different to its original appearance without there being no need for it. [Al-Muntaqa min Fatāwā Ash-Sheikh Al-Fawzān (3/317)] Sheikh ’Abdulhamīd Az-Zu'kari ḥafidhahullāh issued a similar fatwa, as you can see here: https://t.me/abdulhamid12/1158 Sheikh ’Uthaymīn ḥafidhahullāh gives concession for a woman to wear contact lenses in order to beautify herself for her husband with two conditions: 1⃣. The contact lense must not pose any harm to her, and this is determined by medical professionals 2⃣. It must not resemble the eyes of animals; cats, dogs, rabbits, and the like, because imitation of animals is only mentioned in a negative, discouraging light in the Shari’ah. For example: {فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَیۡهِ یَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ یَلۡهَثۚ ذَّ ٰ⁠لِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔایَـٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ} “His example is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it ˹still˺ pants. This is the example of the people who deny Our signs. So narrate ˹to them˺ stories ˹of the past˺, so perhaps they will reflect.” [Sūrah Al-Aʿrāf: 176] {مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِینَ حُمِّلُوا۟ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ یَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ یَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢاۚ بِئۡسَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ} “The example of those who were entrusted with ˹observing˺ the Torah but failed to do so, is that of a donkey carrying books. How evil is the example of those who reject Allah’s signs!
