The ruling on performing nikah inside the masjid The scholars are divided into the following 4 opinions: 1. Sunnah (recommended) 2. MubāαΈ₯ (permissible) 3. Bid'ah (impermissible) 4. It varies between permissibility/impermissibility based on the intention CONCLUSION: Performing the nikah in the masjid coincidentally, without believing it to be better or to carry more barakah, is generally allowed. But if one does so believing it to be an act of worship, or it becomes a regular occurrence amongst the people, then this is problematic. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta stated: "The issue of carrying out marriage contracts in masjids or elsewhere is generally permissible according to the sharee'ah. There is no evidence, to our knowledge, that specifies performing it in masjids as a Sunnah. Therefore, insisting on performing it in masjids is an innovation." [Fatawa of the Permanent Committee (18/110-111)] They also stated: "It is not Sunnah to perform marriage contract in masjids. Doing so regularly and considering this a Sunnah is an act of innovation; for the Prophet ο·Ί said: 'Whoever introduces into this matter of ours [i.e., Islam] something that is not part of it, it will be rejected'."
