Female patients visiting Male Ruqyah practitioners on their own
QUESTION: What is the ruling on performing Ruqyah on women without a mahram present and without any partition between them? And is it permissible to boycott him if he does not accept advice?
Sheikh Abu 'Amr Al-Hajoori αΈ₯afidhahullΔh:
"If this Ruqyah practitioner is not a mahram, then this is impermissible. [The Prophet ο·Ί said] 'A man must not be alone with a woman.' [He ο·Ί also said] 'Beware of entering upon women.' This is a wide-open door to evil, especially in cases of women who are possessed or bewitched, such that they may become exposed, or she may undress, or the jinn manipulates her, and so. This is impermissible. It is not permissible for her to do this even if she is veiled. It is not permissible for him to perform Ruqyah on her [while she is alone], even if there is a partition, unless it is a substantial barrier, like a structure that he cannot reach beyond. Otherwise, it is obligatory for him to avoid that. We advise that women perform Ruqyah for themselves, and that a person recites for themselves or for their close relatives. Recite Surahs such as Al-Fatiha, the Mu'awwidhat (Surahs Al-Falaq, An-Nas and Al-Ikhlas), and Al-Baqarah. Is this not Qur'Δn? Or does the Ruqyah practitioner have a different type of Qur'Δn?! It is the same and even better; I.e. that you read upon yourself while you are at ease. This is our advice, and whoever does that (I.e. male Ruqyah practitioners who read on female patients in seclusion), should be advised. If they accept, that is good. Otherwise, they are engaging in sin and should be boycotted."
