‘Dispelling the Hardship by Rebuking the Wicked: Those Who Call to Making Equal Men with Women and Abolishing the Innate Female Differences’ This book by our beloved Shaykh, al-ʿAllāmah Yaḥyā al-Ḥajūrī—may Allāh preserve him—is an excellent refutation of modern-day feminism. It explores the evidences clarifying the inherent differences between men and women in light of the Sharīʿah, presenting the Islamic paradigm of gender roles, rights, and responsibilities, while dismantling modern misconceptions of equality. Islām establishes equity, not sameness, for men and women are inherently different. The book contains 86 chapters, each addressing a specific difference between men and women and presenting its evidence. 10 from amongst them are: • Menstruation is ordained by Allāh upon females. • Piercing the ears is permissible for female infants but not male infants. • The Adhān and Iqāmah are not obligatory upon women. • A woman does not lead men in prayer. • Jumuʿah is not obligatory upon women. • To correct the Imām during prayer, women clap while men say ‘Subḥānallāh’. • Men wash deceased men, while women wash deceased women. • Polygyny is permitted for men, but not the reverse. • Providing maintenance (Nafaqah) is obligatory upon the husband for his wife, not the reverse. • Divorce is in the hands of the man.
