Is a woman's voice ’Awrah? Imām An-Nawawi raḥimahullāh stated: “Her (i.e. a woman's) voice is not ’awrah according to the more correct opinion, but it is ḥarām to listen to it if there is the fear of fitnah. If a man knocks at her door, she should not answer with a soft voice, rather she should make her voice harsh." "A woman's voice is not 'awrah, as women used to come to the Prophet, ﷺ and ask him questions in the presence of men, and he did not object to this. If a woman's voice were considered 'awrah, the Prophet ﷺ would have disapproved. Therefore, a woman's voice is not 'awrah. However, it is not permissible for a man to seek pleasure from this, whether that pleasure is of a sexual nature or a form of enjoyment and comfort. A man should only listen to her voice to the extent necessary, especially if she is a non-mahram."
