Parents vs Husband Al-Buhūti rahimahullah wrote: «إذا تعارضت طاعة الزوج مع طاعة الأبوين، قدمت طاعة الزوج، قال الإمام أحمد رحمه الله في امرأة لها زوج وأم مريضة: طاعة زوجها أوجب عليها من أمها إلا أن يأذن لها» “If obedience to the husband conflicts with obedience to the parents, obedience to the husband takes precedence. Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said regarding a woman who has a husband and a sick mother: Obedience to her husband is more obligatory for her than her mother - unless he gives her permission.” [Sharh Muntaha Al-Irādāt 3/47] Al-Mardāwi rahimahullah states: «لا يلزمها طاعة أبويها في فراق زوجها، ولا زيارةٍ ونحوها، بل طاعة زوجها أحق» “She is not required to obey her parents in terms of separating from her husband, visitation, or the like. Rather, obedience to her husband takes precedence.” [Al-Insāf, 8/362] Similarly, Sheikhul Islām Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah said: «وَالْمَرْأَةُ الْمُتَزَوِّجَةُ طَاعَتُهَا لِزَوْجِهَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ طَاعَتِهَا لِأَبَوَيْهَا» “A married woman's obedience to her husband is better than obedience to her father.” [Majmūʿ Al-Fatāwa, 10/428] __ EVIDENCES: ٠ عن عبد الله بن أبي أوفى رضي الله عنه قال: لما قدم معاذ من الشام سجد للنبي ﷺ قال: ((ما هذا يا معاذ؟)) قال أتيت الشام فوافقتهم يسجدون لأساقفتهم وبطارقتهم فوددت في نفسي أن نفعل ذلك بك، فقال رسول الله ﷺ ((فلا تفعلوا، فإني لو كنت آمرا أحدا أن يسجد لغير الله لأمرت المرأة أن تسجد لزوجها، والذي نفس محمد بيده لا تؤدي المرأة حق ربها حتى تؤدي حق زوجها، ولو سألها نفسها وهي على قتب لم تمنعه)). Narrated ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa said: When Mu‘aadh ibn Jabal came from Syria, he prostrated to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, “What is this, O Mu‘aadh?” He said, I went to Syria and saw them prostrating to their archbishops and patriarchs, and I wanted to do that for you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Do not do that. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone other than Allah, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no woman can fulfil her duty towards Allah until she fulfils her duty towards her husband. If he asks her (for intimacy) even if she is on her camel saddle, she should not refuse.” [Ibn Mājah; Graded as Shaih by Sheikh Albāni in Sahīh Ibn Mājah] ٠ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا صَلَّتِ الْمَرْأَةُ خَمْسَهَا، وَصَامَتْ شَهْرَهَا، وَحَصَّنَتْ فَرْجَهَا، وَأَطَاعَتْ بَعْلَهَا؛ دَخَلَتْ مِنْ أَيِّ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ شَاءَتْ. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If a woman prays her five prayers, fasts her month of Ramadan, guards her chastity, and obeys her husband, she will enter Paradise from any gate she wishes.” [S‌ah‌i‌h‌ Ibn H‌ibba‌n 4163; Graded Sahih (authentic) by Sheikh Albani in Sahih Al-Jami 660] ٠ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضى الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: ‏((لاَ يَحِلُّ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ تَصُومَ وَزَوْجُهَا شَاهِدٌ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ، وَلاَ تَأْذَنَ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ)).
