Working As A Driver for Women Question: Is it permissible for a man to work as a driver for women? In our country they say that if the woman covers herself inside the car, then this is permissible. Shaykh Rashad Adh-Dhali'i: This matter has some detail: First: If this driver is taking her to a place that constitutes travel, and she does not have a maαΈ₯ram with her, then this is not permissible, even if she covers herself, and even if there are other women with her or other men in the car. This is prohibited because it is travel without a Mahram. The Prophet ο·Ί said: β€œIt is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel except with a maαΈ₯ram.” A maαΈ₯ram must be a mature man. A woman cannot be a maαΈ₯ram, and a young boy cannot be a maαΈ₯ram either. A maαΈ₯ram must be a male who has reached maturity. However, if there is no travel, meaning she rides with a driver within the city, going from one place to another, then: If there is seclusion (khalwah) meaning there is no one in the car except the driver and the woman then this is prohibited due to seclusion. Seclusion may occur because he may drive through places where no one is around, or the car windows may be tinted, so that no one can see what is inside. This constitutes khalwah. But if other women are with her, then it is permissible for her to ride with him within the city where there is no travel, transporting her from one place to another, as long as temptation and harm are not feared. The Prophet ο·Ί allowed the women and the weak among the people during the Farewell αΈ€ajj to go ahead after midnight to stone the Jamrah, and he placed with them some of his relatives who were not maαΈ₯rams to them, such as Ibn ΚΏAbbās and others, to accompany them Source: https://t.me/rashadEng1 https://t.me/womensbenefits/1514
