Fasting While Unsure if Menstruation Had Ended Before Dawn Shaykh Uthaymeen rahimahullah said: "Her fast is not valid, and she must make up that day later. This is because the basic rule is that the menstruation is assumed to still be continuing. Entering the fast while not being certain of purity means entering an act of worship while doubting a condition required for its validity, and this prevents the fast from being valid. [Majmuβ€˜ Fatawa Shaykh Ibn β€˜Uthaymeen, 19/107] --- Scholars such as Badr Ad-Din Az-Zarkashi in his book β€œAl-Manthur fi Al-Qawaβ€˜id” and Jalal Ad-Din As-Suyuti in β€œAl-Ashbah wa An-Naza’ir” mention the following Fiqh principle: Ψ§Ω„Ψ£Ψ΅Ω„ في ΩƒΩ„ ΨΨ§Ψ―Ψ« ΨͺΩ‚Ψ―ΩŠΨ±Ω‡ Ψ¨Ψ£Ω‚Ψ±Ψ¨ Ψ²Ω…Ω†. β€œAny new event is judged according to the nearest possible time it could have occurred.” Meaning: If something happens and it could have occurred either earlier or later, and there is no evidence to prioritise one time over the other, then it is considered to have happened at the nearest possible time (i.e. The later of the two times). This is because that time is certain, while the earlier time is doubtful. Example: If a person finds semen on his clothes and knows it is from a wet dream but does not remember having a wet dream, he should assume it happened during the last sleep he had. Therefore, he repeats the prayers he performed after that sleep. Therefore: If a woman sees menstrual blood but does not know when it started, whether before sunset or after sunset, then the time is judged according to the nearest possibility, which would be after sunset. And so it is assumed that the blood started after sunset. Source: https://t.me/womensbenefits/1512
