One Word Can Restore a Relationship(1)
Saʿīd ibn Manṣūr reported in As-Sunan from Ibn Sīrīn that Al-Hasan ibn ʿAlī divorced one of his wives and sent her ten thousand (coins) as compensation.
She said:
«متاع قليل من حبيب مفارق»
“A small gift from a beloved one who is departing.”
When he heard what she said, he took her back.
Similarly, Sufyān narrated from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār who said: Ibn ʿUmar divorced one of his wives. She said to him:
“Did you see anything from me that you disliked?”
He said: “No.”
She said:
ففيم تطلق العفيفة المسلمة؟
“Then why divorce a chaste Muslim woman?”
So he took her back.

(1) By the same token, a single word can destroy a relationship.
Narrated Mālik ibn Rabīʿah Abū Usayd As-Sāʿidī: We went out with the Prophet ﷺ until we reached a garden called Ash-Shawṭ. When we arrived at two gardens, we sat between them. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Sit here.”
Then he went inside. A woman from the Jawn tribe had been brought, and she was placed in a house among the palm trees in the home of Umaymah bint An-Nuʿmān ibn Sharāḥīl. With her was her nurse who used to care for her.
When the Prophet ﷺ entered upon her, he said: “Offer yourself to me.”
She replied: “Does a queen offer herself to a common man?”
The narrator said: The Prophet ﷺ reached out his hand toward her to place it on her so that she would calm down. But she said: “I seek refuge in Allah from you.”
So he said: “You have sought refuge with One who gives protection.”
Then he came out to us and said: “O Abu Usayd, give her two garments and return her to her family.”
