Ruling on a pregnant or breastfeeding woman who fears for herself or child if she fasts
Sheikh Muhammad Adam Al-Ithyobi rahimahullah wrote:
The view that seems strongest to me from these opinions is the one that says they only have to make up the fast later, and they do not have to feed the poor. This is because they are similar to a sick person, and Allah did not require feeding the poor for the sick person. Therefore the same applies to them.
Also, the Prophet ο·Ί placed them in the same category as the traveller in being allowed to leave the fast. It is well known that the traveller only makes up the fast later and does not have to feed the poor, as was previously explained in the words of Al-Jassas rahimahullah.
In summary: If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman breaks her fast for the reasons mentioned, she only needs to make up the missed fasts later, and no expiation (feeding the poor) is required.
