Questioner: What is the ruling regarding women going for ṣalāh al-tarāwīḥ wearing adornments and perfume, thinking that this is acting upon [Allāh's] Statement تعالى:
{ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِینَتَكُمۡ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسۡجِدࣲ }
“O children of Ādam! Take your adornment to every masjid.”?
Shaykh Muqbil bin Hādī al-Wādiʿī رحمه الله said:
If she goes wearing perfume, then the Rasūl ﷺ allowed women to go to the masājid for ʿIshāʾ with the condition that they go as tafilāt, i.e., wearing clothes that do not attract people’s gaze, and without wearing any perfume.
Abū Hurayrah says that the Nabī ﷺ said,
أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ خَرَجَتْ مُتَعَطِّرَةً لِيَجِدُوا رِيحَهَا فَهِيَ زَانِيَةٌ
“Any woman who goes out perfumed in order for the people to smell her fragrance is an adultress.”
