Manners of Women While Walking on the Street The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “It is not for the women (to walk in) the middle of the path.” [Silsilah Al-Ahādīth As-Sahīhah, 2/536] Imām Abu Dāwūd rahimahullah explained: “From the manners of a woman’s walking with men on the road is that she does not walk in the middle of the path, wherever on the path there is (presence) of men, and she only walks on the side of the road for the middle of the path is specified for men only.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Draw back! you must not embrace (walk in the middle of) the road; upon you is to keep to the sides of the road.” Then the women were keeping so close to the wall that their garment was rubbing against it.
