Oral Sex in Marriage: Navigating Differing Views Between Spouses Question: A sister asks, is it allowed for her to refuse oral acts in the private area with her husband even if he is displeased with her refusal, is it a form of impermissible disobedience? Answer: Keep in mind that β€œoral acts” is a broad termβ€”it includes kissing, licking and sucking. In principle, a man is permitted to enjoy his wife, and this general allowance cannot be restricted without clear evidence. Allāh the Exalted says: β€œAnd those who guard their private parts, except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possessβ€”for then they are free from blame.” [SΕ«rah Al-MuΚΎminΕ«n 23:5–6] We do have evidence that prohibits: (a) vaginal intercourse during menses (b) anal intercourse (c) consuming najāsah (pre-cum is najis, whereas semen is not) (d) causing harm to another person. If these matters can be avoided, then there should be no issue. Hypothetically, if a sister holds the view that oral sex is impermissible, then it would not be permissible for her to comply.
