The Woman Who Says, ‘I Am Imprisoned’
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:
“A woman who says, ‘Remaining in the house is like being imprisoned,’ is objecting to the words of Allāh:
‘And remain in your houses’ [Qur’an 33:33].
How can what Allāh has commanded be considered a prison?
Yet, it may feel like a prison for those who wish to:
* Display themselves indiscriminately, or
* Join the company of men.
Otherwise, the joy of staying at home lies in:
* Modesty,
* Decency,
* Protection from temptation,
* Avoiding unnecessary interaction with men.
When a woman goes out and encounters men—
* A handsome young man,
* An attractive elderly man,
* A man dressed in fine clothing—
She may become tempted, just as men are tempted by women.
Therefore, women must fear Allāh, adhere to what their Lord and Creator has commanded, and follow the guidance of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. They should remember that they will meet Allāh and be asked about their response to the messengers. No one knows when they will meet Allāh:
* A woman may wake up in her house and sleep in her grave, or
* Sleep in her house and wake up in her grave.
So, may Allāh grant fear of Him to these women.”
