It Is Not Permissible for a Woman to Ask for Her Sister’s Divorce It is reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Prophet ο·Ί said: β€œIt is not permissible for a woman to ask for her sister’s divorce in order to claim her share; for she only has what has been decreed for her.” (Agreed upon) Commentary: The Shari'ah has regulated dealings among people in buying and selling, clearly outlining necessary rules to prevent disputes, ignorance, deceit, or wrongdoing in transactions. In this hadith, the Prophet ο·Ί prohibited certain types of dealings that could lead to conflict, enmity, or injustice among Muslims. Specifically, he prohibited a woman from asking her husband to divorce her co-wife (her sister in religion) in order to monopolise what is in her co-wife’s share. In other words, she should not seek to take exclusive possession of the husband’s favours and deprive the other wife of her rightful share. In Abu Dawud’s narration, it is stated: β€œLet her marry; for she only has what has been decreed for her.” This means she should not make her sister’s divorce a condition; the other wife may either accept or refuse. The essence is that a woman should not impose such a condition, and she will receive what Allāh Almighty has decreed for her. Whatever is destined for her will inevitably reach her.
