Ibn Rajab raḥimahullāh explained: “A woman should only clap when there are men present. If she is only with other women, as in the case where ‘A’ishah said tasbih for her sister Asmā’ during the solar eclipse prayer, it is permissible because the concern is men hearing a woman’s voice, which is not an issue here.
