A sister’s questions regarding Zakah:

❓) If I have no income, do I still have to pay zakah?
✅) Zakah is not based on income. It becomes obligatory on money only when:
A. Your wealth reaches the nisāb
B. A full lunar year passes while that amount remains in your ownership
So:
-> If your savings do not reach the nisāb, no zakah is due
-> If your savings reach the nisāb but are spent before one lunar year passes, no zakah is due
-> If your savings remain above the nisāb for a complete lunar year, zakah becomes obligatory!
❓) In this situation, does my father or husband have to pay zakah for me?
✅) Your father or husband is not required to pay zakah on your behalf, because zakah is due only from the owner of the wealth, not from relatives. This is different from Qurbani/Udḥiyah, where the head of the household offers the sacrifice for himself and the members of his household.
However, if zakah is due on your wealth and your father or husband pays it on your behalf, this is permissible, provided you give your consent and make the intention beforehand.
