Underage marriages in this era
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:
βWhat appears to me is that from a disciplinary point of view of the present time, the father is to be absolutely stopped from marrying his daughter until she reaches puberty.
And she is to be asked for her permission (for marriage).
A lot of things happen, because they do not take into account the interest of the girl, rather they only take into account the interest of themselves.
There are many women who were married by their fathers without their consent.
And when she came to know and the husband disturbed her she asked the household to get her a divorce from him or she will burn herself. This happens many times because the household do not understand the interest of their daughter rather they see their own benefits. For me, this (practice of marrying underaged minor girls who have not crossed puberty) should be prevented/stopped at the present time, and every era has its own rulings.β
