The Woman Who Tried to Deceive Her Husband into Divorce Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim rahimahullah said: In Musannaf Wakiʿ, it is mentioned that ʿUmar ibn Al-Khaṭṭāb ruled concerning a woman who said to her husband: “Call me by an affectionate name.” So he called her “Adh-dhabiyyah” (gazelle). She said: “No.” He said to her: “Then what would you like me to call you?” She replied: “Call me khaliyyah ṭāliq.” So he told her: “Then you are khaliyyah ṭāliq.” (He intended by Al-khaliyyah a she-camel set free so that the people of the neighborhood may drink from its milk, and by At-ṭāliq a she-camel without a halter; but she intended to deceive him into pronouncing divorce.) She then went to ʿUmar ibn Al-Khaṭṭāb and said: “My husband has divorced me.” Her husband came and told him the entire story. So ʿUmar said to her husband: “Take her by the hand and make her regret her behaviour.” Ibn Al-Qayyim commented: “This is the living, insightful Fiqh that enters the hearts without permission—even if the wording outwardly resembles an explicit divorce.” [I‘lām Al-Muwaqqiʿīn (3/448)] https://t.me/womensbenefits/1219
