Hair Buns: Top vs. Back of the Head Question: What is the ruling on using small clips or hair fasteners that are placed on the top of the head to hold the hair β€” do they prevent water from reaching the hair, and must they be removed for every wudΕ«ΚΌ, given that doing so causes some difficulty? Sheikh Uthaymeen raαΈ₯imahullāh: This question actually involves two separate issues. First: Gathering the hair on top of the head in such a way that it forms a hump is discouraged. The Prophet ο·Ί said: β€œThere are two types of people among the inhabitants of Hell whom I have not yet seen: men carrying whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike people unjustly, and women who are clothed yet naked, deviating and leading others astray; their heads are like the humps of tilted camels. They will not enter Paradise nor perceive its fragrance, even though its fragrance can be detected from a great distance.” Accordingly, it is not permissible to tie the hair on the top of the head, whether with clips or by other means. Second: If, however, the hair is gathered at the back of the head β€” in what women commonly call a bun β€” then there is no harm in that. The validity of wiping the head in ablution does not require that water reach the scalp itself; it suffices to wipe over the outer surface of the hair, whether it is gathered or left loose. ------ Related Benefit ‡️ https://t.me/womensbenefits/1142
