Ruling on Monetary Gifts Exchanged Among Women After Childbirth Question: Some women give money to another woman when she gives birth β€” an amount referred to as αΈ₯ummādah or ghuddāyah. Later, when that woman gives birth, they return a larger amount, such as 500 or 1000 (currency units), saying: β€œIt would be improper to return the same amount.” Does this practice involve ribā? Sheikh Najeeb Ash-Shar’abi αΈ₯afidhahullāh: It appears that this practice is closer to being considered a debt. If the additional payment is due to a prior condition or a binding social custom, then it falls under ribā. However, if there is no prior condition and no binding custom, then it is regarded as an act of generosity in repayment. And Allāh knows best. Source: https://t.me/qweasdzxcmnblkjpoik/5558
