Seeking Refuge from a Co-Wife Question: What is the ruling on seeking refuge from a co-wife (ḍarrah) and supplicating for safety and well-being? Sheikh Najeeb Ash-Shar’abi αΈ₯afidhahullāh: As for supplicating for safety and well-being, it is a good and beautiful supplication. However, seeking refuge from a co-wife depends on the situation: - If the co-wife is known to cause harm or behave maliciously, then it is permissible to seek refuge in Allāh from her evil. - But if seeking refuge stems merely from jealousy, then it is not appropriate. A woman should not occupy herself with matters concerning her co-wife; rather, she should ask Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, for the good of this world and the Hereafter. - Likewise, if what is intended by the supplication is asking Allāh that her husband never takes another wife β€” as some women do out of fear that their husband may marry again β€” then this too is not appropriate. She will receive only what Allāh has decreed for her. Instead, she should supplicate for herself and her husband for the good of this world and the Hereafter.
