Is it permissible to name a child Bayฤn or Abrฤr?
Question: Honourable Shaykh, what is your opinion regarding those who name their children with certain words mentioned in the Qur'ฤn, such as Afnฤn, Anfฤl, and Bayฤn?
Sheikh Uthaymeen raแธฅimahullฤh:
There is no harm in naming oneโs sons or daughters with words taken from the Qur'ฤn, except in cases where the name itself is specifically prohibited. For example, the name Abrฤr should not be used, because the Prophet ๏ทบ changed the name of Barrah to Zaynab and to Juwayriyyah. Similarly, the name Bayฤn should not be used, since Al-Bayฤn refers to the Qur'ฤn itself, as Allฤh Almighty says: "This is a Bayฤn (clear statement) to mankind" [ฤl-สฟImrฤn: 138].
Questioner: And what if someone has already named their child Bayฤn?
Sheikh: Whoever has named their child Bayฤn should change it.
