When others surpass you in worldly matters, strive to surpass them in matters of the Hereafter
Shaddād ibn Aws (may Allāh be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say:
“When people hoard gold and silver, you should hoard these words instead:
(1) اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الثَّبَاتَ فِي الْأَمْرِ،
"O Allāh, I ask You for steadfastness in this matter,
(2) وَالْعَزيمَةَ عَلَى الرُّشْدِ،
and determination upon righteousness.
(3) وَأَسْأَلُكَ شُكْرَ نِعْمَتِكَ،
I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings,
(4) وَأَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ عِبَادَتِكَ،
and for excellence in worshipping You.
(5) وَأَسْأَلُكَ قَلْبًا سَلِيمًا،
I ask You for a sound heart,
(6) وَأَسْأَلُكَ لِسَانًا صَادِقًا،
and a truthful tongue.
(7) وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا تَعْلَمُ،
I ask You for the best of what You know,
(8) وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا تَعْلَمُ،
and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know.
(9) وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا تَعْلَمُ،
And I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.
(10) إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ))
Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen."
