The Story of the Man Who Afflicted His Daughter with the Evil Eye A father returned home at night and knocked on the door. His daughter, about ten years old, opened for him. When he looked at her, he was struck by her beauty and said to her: “O fortune, whose daughter are you?” That very night, the girl fell gravely ill, suffering from diarrhea and vomiting until she passed away. She was buried the following morning. There is no power and no strength except through Allāh. The one who afflicts with the evil eye may in fact be among the closest to you without you realising it—whether a father, a mother, a brother, a sister, or others. Therefore, this should not be considered strange, for it is a reality. For this reason, whenever I recite over someone afflicted by the evil eye, I encourage his family members to wash for him, as well as his friends and neighbors, so that he may bathe with that water.
