𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (419)

Restoring Marital Harmony Question: O Shaykh, disagreements between me and my wife have multiplied over the most trivial matters, escalating until they reach the point of divorce. We later regret it. We feel as though there is something hidden behind this… Could it be sorcery or the evil eye? Is there a lawful remedy for such a situation? Our condition has become exhausting—please guide us, may Allāh have mercy upon you. Answer — and Allāh alone inspires what is right: All praise is due to Allāh, who placed healing in His Book, tranquility in His remembrance, and comfort and happiness in obedience to Him. I bear witness that there is no diety worthy of worship except Allāh, and that Muḥammad is His servant and Messenger—may abundant blessings and peace be upon him. ▪️First: Not every marital problem arises from character or temperament! Many cases of marital discord originate from hidden causes such as the evil eye, sorcery, or satanic possession. Their effects often manifest in constant disputes, aversion, sudden bursts of anger, and regret after divorce—as though the souls were restrained and unaware of what they were doing. Through interpreting many dreams, I have observed that their meaning often points to one of three things: 1) A destructive evil eye, 2) A concealed form of sorcery, 3) Or satanic interference that undermines family relationships. Evidence from the Qur'ān and Sunnah: 1️⃣ Allāh says: “They learned from them how to cause separation between a man and his wife.” [Al-Baqarah 2:102] A clear proof that sorcery is used to create division between spouses. 2️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water, then sends forth his detachments… One of them comes and says: ‘I did not leave him until I separated him from his wife.’ Iblis draws him near and says: ‘You are the best!’” [Muslim] No one is brought closer to Shaytan than the one who destroys a household. 3️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ said: “The evil eye is real; if anything were to precede divine decree, it would have been the evil eye.” [Muslim] Indicating the immense effect of the evil eye, which may outweigh other causes if Allah wills. ▪️Second: Do not resort to external solutions before seeking spiritual treatment It is wrong to hasten toward separation or divorce without first turning to Qur'ānic healing and lawful remedies. Many causes of discord—even if they appear psychological or behavioural—may in fact be rooted in jinn, sorcery, or the evil eye. Evidences encouraging ruqyah before divorce: 1️⃣ Allāh says: “We send down in the Qur'ān that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers.” [Al-Isrāʾ 17:82] How then can healing be neglected, while people pursue only material solutions? 2️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seek treatment, O servants of Allāh, for Allāh has not created a disease except that He has created for it a cure.” [Ahmad, Abū Dāwūd] Sorcery and the evil eye are among the ailments that may be treated through ruqyah. 3️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ said regarding Al-Fātiḥah: “How did you know it is a ruqyah?” [l-Bukhārī, Muslim] He said this when a Companion recited it over a man who had been bitten and he was healed. ▪️Third: Practical Steps for Treatment ✅ 1. Recitation of Sūrah Al-Baqarah The Prophet ﷺ said: “Recite Sūrah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the sorcerers cannot withstand it.” [Muslim] He also said: “Do not turn your homes into graves. Shaytan flees from the house in which Sūrah Al-Baqarah is recited.” [Muslim] Ibn Masʿūd (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “Whoever recites ten Āyāt from Al-Baqarah, no devil shall approach him.” (Authentic report) Make it a daily household practice—by reciting or playing its recitation. It burns away devils and nullifies sorcery by Allāh’s permission. ✅ 2. Mutual Ruqyah between spouses The husband may recite over his wife, and she over him. Āyāt may be recited over water to drink or bathe with, or directly recited upon the body with gentle blowing. Evidences:
