This letter > ( ا ) is Alif and this letter > ( أ ) is Hamzah.
The letter Hamzah needs a chair to sit on. Sometimes it sits on a Waaw (ؤ), sometimes on a Yaa (ئ) and sometimes on an Alif (أ). In all of these 3 cases, it is called 'Hamzah'. Please keep this in mind!
