Can a Man Marry a Second Wife If He Has Limited Sexual Ability? Question: If a husband is weak and is only able to have intercourse once or twice a week, is it permissible for him to marry a second wife because he has the financial ability to do so? Shaykh Khalid Ash-Sharahi (may Allah preserve him) replied: And peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. The scholars have stipulated that whoever wants to marry more than one wife must have: 1) Financial ability, 2) Physical ability, 3) And the ability to be just between his wives. The Prophet ο·Ί encouraged marriage and urged people towards it. He said: β€œO young people, whoever among you is able to marry, then let him marry…” And he said: β€œMarry the loving and fertile women.” Polygyny has great benefits. Among these benefits are protecting the chastity of the women he marries, increasing connections between people, having more children, fulfilling natural desires, and other benefits. A man should not marry if he is unable to provide financial support. Likewise, he should not marry if he is unable to have intercourse and fulfil the woman’s rights. However, if the woman agrees to give up her right to financial support, intercourse, or similar rights, then it is permissible for him to marry. Otherwise, it is not permissible for him, because he would be neglecting and harming her. It should also be noted that some people marry more than one wife as a matter of pride and competition. This should not be done, because it falls under the prohibited form of extravagance. Allah says: β€œAnd do not be extravagant. Indeed, He does not love those who are extravagant.” (7:31) If Allah grants him wealth but he has a physical weakness and cannot find a treatment for it, then we advise him to help others maintain their chastity, and he will be rewarded for that. Some scholars have even counted this among the forms of ongoing charity (αΉ£adaqah jāriyah), as helping righteous people get married is a continuing charity from which a person may benefit after his death. And Allah knows best. Source: https://t.me/BOT_9_9_1/24225 https://t.me/Menzbenefits/515
