Do Not Be Excessive in Exercising Authority
Sheikh Dagash Al-Ajmi hafidhahullah writes:
Some men go to extremes in the way they exercise their authority within the family, and they treat women very poorly, even preventing them from things that are permissible.
Women need room to enjoy what is permissible. That is why Islamic law has allowed women certain things that it has forbidden for men, because they suit their natural dispositionβsuch as gold, silk, beating the duff (frame drum), and similar things.
Therefore, my advice is:
Give them freedom in what is permissible, as long as it is not:
Something forbidden (haram), or
Something that compromises a man's dignity and honourable conduct.
