Transgenderism in Islam
Question:
What is the Islamic ruling on transgenderism?
Shaykh Abdul-Hameed Az-Zoukory hafidhahullah
The woman is a woman, and the man is a man. Everyone must know this.
A man cannot become a woman, and a woman cannot become a man even if they undergo surgeries involving gender change from woman to man or from man to woman.
According to the (ruling) of Allah and the legislation of Allah, this transgender person if they transitioned from a man to a woman is still considered a man. The rulings related to men apply to him: it is not permissible for him to be in seclusion with unrelated women, and it is not permissible for him to marry a man, even if they surgically created for him female genitalia.
Likewise, the woman who has transitioned into a man is not permitted to marry a woman, because a woman does not marry another woman.
Likewise, regarding inheritance, she receives only half the share of a male.
These are matters now being raised in societies, and this woman who has transitioned into a man is still required to cover her face and observe hijab.
All the rulings of the Shariah that are specific to women apply to her. And the man who has transitioned into a woman all the rulings of the Shariah specific to men apply to him.
As for Western society today, they no longer differentiate; according to their expression, even asking this question has become considered βunethical.ββ
