Patience With Women
Shaykh AbΕ« Bakr Ibn Al-LabbΔd rahimahullah had a sharp-tongued wife, to the point that one day, she said offensive speech to him.
So, his companions said to him, βDivorce her and we will fulfil her right.β
He replied, βI fear that if I were to divorce her, a Muslim would be trialled with her, and perhaps AllΔh has spared me a great calamity through her. Indeed I have preserved her with her father, for I had proposed to a group and they all rejected me, but he married me off, and treated me beautifully. Then, should I repay his kindness by divorcing his daughter?β
And he used to say, βFor every Muslim is a trial, and she is my trial.β
