Seeing Blessings in Trials: A Mindset for Raising a Disabled Child Sheikh Faisal Al-Hashihdi writes: All praise is due to Allah. He blessed me with a son, and I named him Abdush-Shakoor. When I saw that he was born blind, I said, “To Allah we belong and to Him we return,” and I praised Allah. Then I spoke to myself, saying: We live in a time full of visual temptations, where hearts are easily drawn to what they see. So perhaps blindness is a form of protection and mercy—better for a person than sight that could lead him into sin, or eyes that pull him toward temptation. So my heart felt at peace, and my chest became calm. All praise is due to Allah for His gifts, and all praise is due to Him for His tests. ------------ I would also recommend parents to reflect on this Ayah: {وَأَمَّا ٱلۡغُلَـٰمُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤۡمِنَیۡنِ فَخَشِینَاۤ أَن یُرۡهِقَهُمَا طُغۡیَـٰنࣰا وَكُفۡرࣰا} "And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief."
