23. If, after marrying a second wife, he buys gold or clothing for the first wife to appease her, this is permissible. There is no harm in this, as women often experience emotional distress when their husbands marry again. Doing so early and informing the second wife may prevent issues. If delayed, however, the second wife may later demand equal treatment. All praise is due to Allāh, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allāh, his family, his companions, and those who follow him.
