Please bear in mind that shaving is different from trimming. The discussion above relates specifically to shaving the head with a razor, not trimming. Trimming the hair evenly to any length one wishes is permissible. Even shaving the head completely bald was not declared impermissible by the shaykh; rather, he merely advised against doing so regularly, as this was not the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, but was instead commonly associated with the Khawarij. However, I believe that shaving the head is permissible without any issue/blame whatsoever, due to the following reasons: Firstly, the Prophet ﷺ permitted shaving the entire head when he said: احلقوه كله, which clearly indicates that shaving the head is permissible. Secondly, it is often balding brothers who regularly shave their heads in order to conceal bald patches. Shaving the head ensures that the hair is kept at a uniform level, which aligns more closely with the hadith: احلقوه كله أو اتركوه كله. Thirdly, hairstyles are not matters of worship, but fall under the category of mubāḥāt and ʿādāt. The custom of the Arabs was to grow their hair, which is why the Prophet ﷺ grew his hair. If someone grows their hair intending to emulate the Prophet ﷺ, they are rewarded for that intention of emulation—not because growing the hair is a Sunnah in and of itself. In fact, many of those associated with the Khawārij today grow their hair long, rendering this reasoning no longer applicable.
